Sega has announced that upcoming spherical platformer Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble will be getting DLC themed around everyone's favorite blue spiny critter Sonic the Hedgehog, as well as three of his buddies.
In a new trailer, Sega reveals that Sonic, as well as Tails, Amy, and Knuckles, will be available to purchase as separate DLC for Banana Rumble, and they'll also be included in the game's Sega Pass.
It's pretty fitting that Sonic and his friends will be making an appearance in Banana Rumble given the game's adoption of the Spin Dash move; I guess Sonic might have considered suing AiAi and company if he hadn't been handed this opportunity.
As well as the four Sonic characters outlined above, the Sega Pass for Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble will also net you access to two more "Sega all-stars", and they've all got their own unique stats as well.
You'll also get some new customization items to trick out your monkeys, although we're not sure what those customization items might be yet. Hopefully, they include a nightmarish Sonic wig of some description.
Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble is the latest game in the long-running Super Monkey Ball series, which I suppose is best described as a platforming franchise, although it's complicated. Amusingly enough, it's being developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, best-known for the Like a Dragon series.
If you're unfamiliar with the games, they're essentially Marble Madness-style romps in which you must guide a monkey in a ball around a series of increasingly treacherous courses.
The difficulty can, in my experience, get pretty controller-breakingly frustrating, although not every game subscribes to that philosophy.
Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble is set to launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch on June 25th. No other platforms have been announced for the game yet.
The Sonic the Hedgehog-themed portion of the Sega Pass arrives sometime this year, so look out for it if you're a fan of the Blue Blur.
